Golf is a very difficult game. We all know how frustrating it can be when the result is not what you envisioned. At the same time, improving your overall physical performance can be just as difficult and can become frustrating when your work in the gym does not progress at the pace you had planned. However, all is not lost in either situation. If you want to find success and ultimately reach your goals in either setting, your mindset must be adaptable. I encourage you to be open to the fact that there is no “cookie cutter” way of mastering the game of golf, nor your quality of movement, strength, and power. This does not mean you have to settle or lower your standards, it simply means not everyone’s roadmap will look the same.
So how do you know if you’ve improved your levels of performance this off season? At GPC, we offer countless feedback tools to allow our athletes the ability to quantify their improvement. Between biofeedback on K-Vest, Swing Catalyst, GEARs, SAM PuttLab, to the Functional Movement Screen, a variety of golf specific screens, and physical proficiencies (such as vertical jump, sit up and throw, and medicine ball shot-put throw, we keep an eye on the development of each person that participates in our programs throughout the year.
In an ideal world, your scoring average would drop significantly each year, but we know that’s not always realistic (especially the better you get!). This game isn’t easy, and in fact, scoring average is typically the LAST area where improvement will be reflected. It is, however, important to consider the positive changes you have made and how each area of focus will ultimately be put together to get you the results you have been working so hard for.
If you haven’t already, be sure to schedule an updated physical evaluation so we can get your 2021 game plan off to a great start!
