The Clubs That Made Morikawa a Major Champion

With the first Major of the year, we have seen not an emergence but a verification that Colin Morikawa is a certified superstar!  Not only did he win his first major last week, but last month Morikawa beat world #2 Justin Thomas in a playoff to win his second PGA Tour title at the Workday Charity Open.  Morikawa rallied from a three-shot deficit with three holes remaining, and made a 25-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to stay alive, before winning with a par on the third playoff hole.  Like many of the players on the PGA Tour, Morikawa uses a “combo” iron set, made up of two different models.  This gives him forgiveness on the long irons and precision on the short irons.  His driver is an 8° TaylorMade Sim with the Tensei White 70 TX shaft while his Fairway Wood is the TaylorMade SIM 14° with the Diamana D+ 80TX shaft.  He does use a Hybrid, it is the TaylorMade SIM Max with the Tensei White 100TX shaft.  Morikawa rounds out his set with a TaylorMade MG2 52 wedge and a pair of Vokey SM8 Wedges.  The Flat stick that has helped him earn over $6.8 million dollars in the last two seasons on the PGA Tour is the  TaylorMade TP Juto, which is a classic “heel-toe weighted blade”.  The ball he used to win the 2020 PGA Championship is the TaylorMade TP5X.  Equipment is such a big part of performance so seeing the best players in the world using the latest and greatest equipment is a testament to their quality and craftsmanship.  If you are not confident you have the best equipment for your game, you are selling yourself short of your potential!
