Self-Assessment

As the season approaches and we all get ready to play some great golf this year here is the question I have had on my mind – What will ultimately determine our success or failure? The truth is it’s simpler than you might think. As motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day.” Taking the time to gain some clarity on the goal setting process and simple disciplines that you are committed to every day can be very powerful.
The first step is the goal setting process, without which you will just be hoping for better golf rather than executing a plan that was born out of this simple step. Ideally, goals are specific and lofty enough to get you excited, perhaps even a little anxious. The next step really is to be evaluated on where you are in within the 5 Elements of Success so that you can create a plan to reach the goals. Lastly, and most importantly, is the process of writing down your true commitments. This is nothing more complicated or difficult than committing to a diet, quitting smoking, overcoming a phobia, or creating a new habit. With that being said, it is an extremely powerful process which can be the difference between becoming who you want to become and not.
Take the time to review your commitments from last year and see how consistent you were. With the question of why did you not reach your goals or play better you may not have to look any further than right there.
