Have you ever noticed at times you didn’t even realize what day it was? Day to day we can get lost in the monotony of life, routine! Why does this happen? What shakes it up for us? For many people it doesn’t get shaken up, it just stays stagnant, routine! How can you change that? Easy answer, find a purpose. I know we all think we have a purpose, but making money to eat and have shelter isn’t a purpose, it is necessity. What motivates you, what makes you dream? We all have a secret inside that whispers to us but we are too afraid to listen because it may take us out of our comfort zone! Trust me, living outside your comfort zone can be scary but it also can be exhilarating and truly rewarding.
I am sure you are asking what does this have to do with golf, what does purpose have to do with being a better player? Simple, if you know why you play the game it may help you understand how to improve in a much better way. It may take some of the sting out of hitting a bad shot or two. If you want to compete at a higher level, you will need to be prepared beyond the average recreational golfer and you must play more golf to develop the knowledge and soft skills needed to compete or else you will become very disappointed. In many cases we see players who wish to play at a higher level but fail to prepare properly, losing interest in competing because he/she becomes frustrated and upset more easily. On the other hand, we have recreational golfers that want to become better but are not aware of how difficult the challenge is of playing golf. We call this the skill challenge ratio. This is simply understanding where your skills truly are versus how difficult golf can be due to the fact the challenges are never the same. The only thing that stays constant in golf is the fact that the objective of the game is to get the ball in the hole with the least number of strokes possible!
If your purpose is to be your best in life and golf, this means that you must have a learning mindset. You take the challenges that come your way and accept failures and successes because they equally have a purpose in your development. If you are motivated by your purpose, your purpose doesn’t come with an expiration date, it merely serves as your motor to keep you going good or bad. Purpose helps give resolve to play and work tirelessly on being better, accepting of where you are in your development and working towards your goals!
Live and play with purpose, you may find something that you were looking for!
Enjoy Your Journey!
