During the past couple of weeks, our Academy has been in Port St. Lucie getting their skills fine tuned in preparation for their season ahead, and have even started playing in their first events of the new season.
For junior golfers, the early-season tournaments are key to setting up success in the middle of the summer, when the most competitive events take place. These early competitions aren’t just about securing wins or low scores — they’re a chance to prepare, technically, mentally and physically for the bigger tournaments later in the year.
After a winter break, many junior golfers return to the course without their best on-course form. Early tournaments give them an opportunity to ease back into competitive play, shake off rust, and test different aspects of their game. Whether it’s refining their swing, adjusting to different weather conditions, or getting back into the rhythm of tournament pressure, these events serve as stepping stones to long-term success.
Rather than focusing solely on results, early-season tournaments help juniors build confidence and consistency. They learn how to recover from mistakes and stay mentally tough in the face of adversity. With the guidance of coaches, players can work on specific areas of their game, set realistic goals, and focus on gradual improvement.
These early competitions are also crucial for understanding how to handle the mental and physical demands of competition. Juniors may face lower stakes in these tournaments, but they are invaluable in helping players gain experience and adjust to the pressure they will face in bigger events later in the summer.
By the time mid-summer tournaments roll around, junior golfers aim to peak in both skill mindset and physical condition. The preparation from early-season tournaments builds the foundation needed to perform under pressure when it counts. Through consistent growth, juniors can approach these key summer events with confidence, knowing they’ve put in the work to succeed.
In short, early-season tournaments are essential for junior golfers to fine-tune their game, build mental toughness, and gain the experience necessary to peak at the right time — during the summer’s most important tournaments.
