Golf Season is Approaching – Do you Know your Limitations?

If I asked you right now, could you list your physical limitations? Do you have daily exercises to address them?

If your answer is no to either question, it’s time for an evaluation—whether it’s coach-guided or a full PDI assessment! With just six weeks until golf season, time is running out to make the right changes that will improve your game.

If we haven’t seen you in the gym this offseason, consider this your wake-up call! The offseason is winding down, but there’s still time to make lasting changes that will help you maximize your performance when the snow melts and you’re back on the course.

Function Dictates Form

How your body moves directly impacts how you swing a golf club. For example, if your right hip is tight and lacks internal rotation, you may find yourself standing up or swaying in your swing—no matter how much you try to correct it mentally. Your body simply won’t allow you to stay in posture unless you address the root cause.

A corrective exercise targeting internal hip rotation could give you a few extra degrees of mobility, making it easier to maintain posture and eliminate your sway. But here’s the catch—you’re not “fixed” after one session. This improvement will only last minutes, hours, or maybe a day unless you continue to reinforce it. Over time, with consistent effort, your body will develop a new motor pattern, locking in the change for good.

Real, Lasting Change Takes Time

We live in a world of instant gratification, but the human body doesn’t work that way. It resists change because, from a primal perspective, change can signal danger. Just like making a life-altering decision—such as moving across the country—your body freaks out when you push it to adapt.

To truly make a difference, you need to do your corrective exercises daily—maybe even multiple times a day—and immediately integrate them into your golf drills. Once your body adapts, the next step is strengthening the pattern to make it permanent. This is how you create lasting change in how you move and swing the club.

There are no shortcuts, hacks, or quick fixes—just hard work, consistent effort, and habit-building to achieve long-term results.
