Patrick Reed wins the Farmers Insurance Open for his 9th PGA Tour Title
Patrick Reed began the tournament with a 64 to hold a share of the lead after Thursday and he never looked back. On Sunday, Viktor Hovland made an early charge at Reed with four birdies on his outward 9 to get to -12. Ultimately, a few mistakes on the back 9 lead to a cruising victory for Reed. The PGA Tour is headed to Scottsdale, AZ for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The famous 16th green will certainly be a bit quieter this year as fans will be limited for the event. In the past, they have seen over 200,000 fans in attendance in a single day. This year, fan attendance will be limited to roughly 5,000 per day.
Jessica Korda wins the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions on the first playoff hole
The Diamond Resorts TOC turned in one of the most thrilling final rounds in recent memory on the LPGA tour. Jessica Korda and Danielle Kang were both sitting at -24 after 72 holes of competition. These ladies went to the first playoff hole where Korda drained a 25’ birdie putt for the victory. This was her first time back in the winner’s circle since early 2018. The LPGA Tour will return to action February 25-28th in Orlando, FL for the Gainbridge LPGA Championship.
The Korn Ferry Tour Announces 2021 Tour Schedule
The Korn Ferry Tour will be returning to action on February 15th at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, FL. Due to COVID-19, the point standings from last year are carrying over to 2021. The top-25 at the end of the 2021 season will earn their PGA Tour card for the 2021-2022 season. This points race is capped off with the Korn Ferry Tour Championship August 30-September 5. GPC’s own John VanDerLaan is currently in 50th place in the points race!! John’s best individual performance in the 2020 season came at the Country Club of Bogota Championship
where he finished in a tie for 6th place. All of GPC will be rooting for John throughout 2021 as he aspires to accomplish his dream of playing on the PGA Tour!
Junior Golf Tournament Recap
In the 7th installment of the Sean Foley Performance Junior Championship on January 15-18, a qualifier alternate turned his opportunity into an 8 shot victory. Filip Jakubcik from the Czech Republic dazzled in what was also his first ever AJGA tournament appearance. Filip fired rounds of 72-66-71 for a total of 209 and he was the only player under par at the event. Filip took full advantage of his opportunity and he shot up to #61 in the Boys AJGA points standings where he was unraked coming into the week. In the girls division, Yana Wilson went wire-to-wire for the victory with an aggregate total of 219. Wilson finished with a 2 shot victory which was propelled by her even par 72 in the second round.
