Gooooaaaaaaals!

A new year represents, for many, a turning of the page. A “new starting point.” I don’t necessarily support the fad of New Year’s resolutions, yet it’s inevitable that before the ball drops at midnight on New Year’s Eve people all over the world will be talking about how they’re going to approach the New Year with revitalized mindsets and lofty goals. This sounds great, but it isn’t news that the percentage of New Year’s resolutions that fail after the first month is upwards of 80%! I encourage everyone to truly find the “why” behind your resolutions and to use that to fuel your fire moving forward.
Whether you’re trying to lose 10 pounds, run a marathon, break 80 for the first time, or just simply play more golf, goals are a necessary part of improving in whatever situation might be ahead of you. Without proper goal setting you are simply hoping that the outcome improves by a matter of chance. To lose more weight, run 26.2 miles, or shoot lower scores, you need to have a plan and stick with that plan to give yourself the best chance to succeed. Goals need to be specific, and have a date for which you will work to achieve them by. Most importantly, to develop a plan to get you there.
There are exactly 16 weeks until the middle of April, when (we hope) then golf season will be underway in the Northeast. Where do you want to be? What are your goals between now and then? What are your goals for the year? I am encouraging everyone to look in the mirror this week, set one goal to begin working toward right now, and ask yourself why you want to achieve that goal. If you need help setting a goal (golf performance related or not), feel free to stop by my office and I can help you get started!
Happy New Year!
See you in the Zone!
