Equipment Manager 101

Equipment Manager 101

As if winning a major at 50 years old isn’t hard enough, Phil highlighted very well all of the 5 Elements of Success on his way to the history books.  Everything we do right here at GPC everyday!  No question he has always had the desire to be the best, beat Tiger, overcome Major droughts and the obsession to win and compete.  He has always coached himself well and been coached well and as of recent years has spent lots of time and resources in getting his body in better shape to perform.  His mental game is tougher than most and that leaves us with equipment.  Unbenounced to most, Phil went through two big equipment snafu’s at Kiawah.  The first came on Saturday.  Phil said he hit a few “squirrely” shots with the TaylorMade Original One Mini Driver(two wood), and the face flattened.  He had a backup head;as any good equipment manager would, and popped it on and said he flushed it.  The second more public one was Sunday on his way to the tee when his 16 degree X Forged UT driving iron (1 or 2 iron?) face caved in.  He was forced to grab a Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero 4 wood as a backup just minutes before tee off.  The moral of the story is to be prepared for anything at any time.  In golf you are responsible for your own equipment!  Not your Dad or Mom or neighbor or Coach, it is you!  So before you make one more excuse, prepare accordingly for success in this critical Element in our 5 Elements of Success: EQUIPMENT!
