Mastery

Mastery

With arguably the greatest week of the year in golf upon us we can all watch and learn from the best players in theworld.  As Bobby Jones set out to create Augusta National many years ago he sought to create a layout that would challenge the skills of players through both subtle and severe contouring of the fairways and greens.  Without question Augusta National is a true test of Mastery.

“Mastery is not a function of genius or talent.  It is a function of time and intense focus applied to a particular field of knowledge.” – Robert Greene.  So as you watch the Masters tournament understand how those players got to where they are.  The level of mastery of the game of golf that you will undoubtedly see is not a result of some unique innate talent or god given gift but rather the result of hours of deliberate focused practice.  Learning to make subtle adjustments for the break and speed changes that these players confront at Augusta National is the result of years of playing in those conditions.

So what does this mean for you?  Well, it means you can develop mastery as well.  It is just a matter of finding out where you are with an assessment and creating a plan to reach your goals.  Striving for mastery in golf is an endless journey that will bring you to confront things inside yourself that you didn’t even realize were blocking you.  That is what makes the game so great!
